What part costed the most or was hardest to find? Notice that all the pipes and fuel lines have been replicated as … These are used, along with part 4624, to guide the elevator along the tension lines. There are a few issue with some pieces not fitting together perfectly. The Launch Tower is a nice MOC but a very bad set.
(Something else exiting is coming soon).
This looks absolutely great – so great that I have ordered it this morning.
Item arrived to my door, in the USA, about a month later. In addition, I added some random plates along the seams in the bottom plate of the base as it felt like there was nothing to stop those collapsing in with any slight pressure from below (e.g.
If you want the elevator guide mechanism to work correctly you'll need to obtain four 4870's. I’m pulling the trigger on this now.
), it was very clear that *many* pieces weren't present. A number of substitutes could be made to bring down the cost. I would religiously update that SF-Express tracking page and NOTHING. I had to shave a bit off some of them with a pencil sharpener to get them to fit.
There are six 1x2 grille pieces on the roof of the crew loading gantry box.

I guess they took it off the cargo jet, and once it cleared customs, they put it on a Wells Fargo stage coach because it took 9 days to get to my house after clearing customs!

The Saturn V launch umbilical tower is held together by bolts that are timed to separate as the rocket leaves the base of the pad. So hang in there and good luck! Of note: The red tubes that make up the diagonal cross members on each level of the tower are not all a consistent diameter. Some are loose and just a few are too big to fit in the part they need to fit into. http://thebrickblogger.com/2018/02/lego-apollo-saturn-v-launch-tower-instructions/. Press J to jump to the feed.
The LEGO version of NASA Saturn V umbilical tower set features the launch tower itself as well as the launch pad.
Some of the tiles are very large, requiring extreme force to fit them to the plates.
The instructions have you put the plates on first then add the tiles. I imagine it would be quite popular.
Compare them against a stack of 5 regular bricks.
when trying to move the thing). On the About Us drop-down on the Vonado website, there is a Track Your Order Link which takes you to "17 Track All In One Package Tracking".
These are white in the instructions, but the ones supplied are light bluish gray.
Time to go for moon walk.
At current check, roughly $900 on bricklink.
TL:DR - My kit was many missing pieces, but Vonado customer service was great in getting me everything (hopefully) I need. They also provided links to the newer, much improved instructions and the Excel inventory list. When this occurred I fixed it by mangling the end of the axle a bit with some pliers. As a follow up, a few days ago I received the four 10M white axles from Vonado.
Minor color variations between like parts noted. I'd definitely recommend adding extra brick columns inside the base. Thanks to the incredible work of the original poster of this thread, I've got the inventory and will begin checking the parts received while I await the instructions to be emailed to me. I've shared the parts list here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1ZRgIwjB4EnEewGcTml7o-62zupnnCzZf. She learnt this with the Saturn V and when she contacted LEGO nothing was done. From all the possible reasons why Ideas sets get rejected, this is "Expected demand". I'd have to dismantle sections of mine now to rig the elevator tensioners correctly. Well, that meant it was shipped by air cargo, but I had NO information as to where it entered the US, or where it even cleared customs. Oh man.
I placed my order back on August 7th.
Are the shipping costs the main reason why it is so expensive? Also check the height of the 1x6x5 panels (59349), in someone else's set they were about half a plate width too tall which causes gaps and weakness when trying to build the tower (apparantly they work fine for the base though).
Hi, have lepin made a copy of the MOC umbilical tower for the Saturn V set yet? HOWEVER, others eventually got their order so I decided to "wait and see". Sweet! I had three 12M white axles in my Lego spares so cut those down for the side tower. There is some slight color variation between some of the red pieces due to them being sourced from different manufacturers. I'm going to have to flip over the base, remove some bottom plates, so I can push on both surfaces of the upper surface (plate + tile) to get them together. I'd love to see yours when you get done with it. Wish I would have found this thread earlier though. Make sure to select the Parts List sheet.
Sent off my shortages to the company and within 24 hours they had dispatched my missing items! I was able to examine the instructions and noted that there was indeed some thought put into them (I noticed that they were NOT an exact copy of the original designer's). Looks bad ass, Is the Saturn pictured here the same as this Lego Saturn V, https://www.target.com/p/lego-ideas-nasa-apollo-saturn-v-21309-space-model-rocket-for-kids-and-adults-science-building-kit/-/A-52316131. Colors aside, are there any that are especially expensive or is it just the quantity?
Throughout their service lives they were continually modified to fit different missions. One final thing I noticed was missing from the instructions and parts list, there is a missing link on the pipping on the back of the base, so you'll need one of these: I build mine before the new instructions were released. I've been following this thread with some apprehension once I realized I was basically investing in Chinese plastic. Portland? Not a clue. On August 20th, I sent them another message just asking about the status of my order. LA?
Sigh...hours and 3000+ parts later, it was noted that I was 150+ items short. I'd rather not share the instructions download link as that is something Vonado have spent a lot of time creating and they may not want it to be public. According to Bricklink, it'll cost $753.88 to build it. Working on the base now and mr693670 is correct about the base design issues. ;-) Also happy to see some instructions (link in this thread somewhere) about the cabling for the elevator and the crane. The fourth is on the side of the base. Overall I am extremely happy with it. I got the 2nd box, started the build again...and again, missing pieces.
The only issues I had were: Some axles had a 1:1 scale callout. Viewing in Google Drive doesn't show the images - download and open in Excel to view the part images. The next update I got was September 2nd, and the message was that my package had "cleared US customs". As you suggest, I may end up painting the gantry arms.
Three launch umbilical towers were built between July 1963 and March 1965. Sounds like you got one of the first batch even though you ordered after me (my order was placed on July 11th). However, some steps with axles had no indication of the axle length, you'll just need to guesstimate it from the diagram. Yes. The base is a shade under 15" x 18".
Some axles are loose in their fitments. Don't attempt this if you don't have some patience and willing to work around some design issues.
