We set 1.5-2L of milk and only about 3-4 spoons of Yoghurt from the last lot and by the morning its all done.

Taste like "normal" yoghurt. The convenience of having a store of yogurt powder in the pantry and whipping it up anytime and only when needed is the key for me. $5 a litre of yoghurt at Coles or woolies compared to a scoop of starter yoghurt and some milk powder? Is it also included to boost the numbers? Some people want to control the procees themselves and try different types of yogurts too. The concept is to make yoghurt with water and their sachets, put it in boiling water bath for 6-12 hours, and the outcome is yoghurt. I don’t think this is anything special, apart the name. Any thoughts why it might be stringy? A few teaspoons of the Greek yoghurt sachet or some leftover yoghurt. I had the same thing happen when I tried UHT, so I was going to suggest that as the cause, but others report no issue with UHT. I will try adding milk powder next time and see the difference. It’s already been heat treated and sealed. Only tricky bit is getting the water temperature just right. Another option is to buy powdered yogurt culture.
Amazing . We usually buy the 2lt of Jalna for $10-12. Then when I’m running out of cubes, I save a second-generation batch and freeze it, to get more cubes. Best explanation: it killed one or two of the 4 bacteria strains from the starter. I only made about 300 ml as an experiment so only used about 1 tablespoon yogurt as culture. Used the easiyo split into 3 x 56g and top up with full cream powder to 200g method with success every time. @ThePasserby: Coles/Woolies anything with work.
The mix of the cultures shifts a little over time, changing the flavour with it. Half price for this very simple yoghurt maker. I add the extra milk powder to make it thick as well.

I used A2 at one point as they were out of the cheaper stuff, didnt make a difference that I could tell (at triple the cost). I shape them into balls…and put in a jar…with olive oil..and some herbs, strips of lemon zest. As many have stated, it's really easy to DIY without a proprietary kitchen unitasker. People are buying time and convenience, not the economy of materials or the purity of the art. I like a squeeze of the vanilla bean paste and a little sugar.
