The story follows the Owens family, who are judged by the community for their interesting and magic-filled lifestyle. It's not a mistake. So if I enjoy a film version, I’ll often love the book and all the added bits. Somehow, I missed the fact that the movie is based on a book. Give me witchery, give me sibling dynamics, give me complex love stories, give me elegant writing and I'm a very happy reader. I’ll give this 4 Stars. Practical Magic is a charmed introduction to the wonders of modern magic and mysticism, from crystals and astrology to chakras, dream interpretation, and, of course, a few spells! Or can it be read as a stand alone??

I watch it at least twice a year. The prequel to Practical Magic, Magic Lessons, was just released, and it sounded really interesting. Wasn't the mom the Owens line? Refresh and try again. I have several of her books on my TBR list and have only managed to read one, so far. The Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman is a 2017 is a Simon & Schuster publication. The Owens sisters are back—not in their previous guise as elderly aunties casting spells in Hoffman’s occult romance Practical Magic (1995), but as fledgling witches in the New York City captured in Patti Smith's memoir Just Kids.. Thus it’s probably no surprise that one of my favorite movies is Practical Magic. It was one of the best books I read that year and I knew I wanted to try Hoffman’s other work at some point. In all, it’s a worthwhile read if you don’t place too much stock in the film, which to me took the best parts of the book and altered the pacing, progression, and dialog to near perfection.

I absolutley loved the movie version of Practical Magic and have seen it many many times. I really need to move the first one up on my list. More intriguing than Practical Magic but that’s not saying much.
