This is a captivating story about a family embroiled in scandals, deceits, lies and feigned relationships. The Last Wife, a mystery/thriller, was a solid 3 stars.


An extremely wealthy family, all hiding secrets from each other, completely dysfunctional as a whole, are suddenly the target of some unwelcome attention. My first Nicola Marsh read. If you are looking for a good thriller/mystery, this is it. However, her husband, Grayson, left one day and never came back.

This has to be one of my favorite historical fiction books. Then, bizarre accidents start happening to the Parker women. This was one of those books where everyone is not particularly personable but this adds enrichment to the story, so you love it anyway. I managed to sit through seven seasons of Pretty Little Liars and somehow, this novel felt longer than that - same payoff though..which means none. Penelope takes an interest in this strange beggar, suspecting that he might be her long-lost husband.

His mother, May Parker, is helping Ria with raising her daughter, as well as ensuring the family’s fortune is kept sec. She marries into a wealthy family...for love, not money. This chapter is told from Lenka’s perspective, continuing the flashback from her time at the vacation home. Told from multiple POVs, I was immediately pulled into the lives of the dysfunctional Parker family with all their secrets, betrayal, greed, and family drama.

Ria Parker is a free-lance journalist and the mother of 10-year-old, Shelley. He dressed deliberately for the occasion, his suit pressed and his shoes shined.

May Parker is the head of the the wealthy Parker family of the Chicago area where she loves to control everyone while being highly critical of all of them. While reading this novel I cried on numerous occasions (something I love in a book).

Exactly who is behind these anonymous emails is a mystery which takes a sinister turn when one by one the females of the family become victims of ‘accidents’.

Her mother in law, May, is the matriarch and had three sons and one daughter. Five years ago, her husband walked out on them. Gripped right from the start, I couldn’t turn the pages on my kindle fast enough. The inner workings of each marriage is under the microscope and everyone seems to be controlled somewhat by the Parker matriarch who controls the family fortune. The secreta, lies and mistrust of a family determined to stick together made for a great read. I have a morbid love for tragic love stories, and this one really satisfied that niche. An edition of this book was published by Recorded Books. This book was truly incredible. I really loved this book but as always after reading of these horrid acts of cruelty you ask yourself, how could it have happened? It’s really that bad. Overall, I recommend this book to anyone looking for a suspenseful, slow-burn thriller.
