'Mindhorn': Film Review | London Film Festival 2016. Mindhorn, the debut feature film from theatre director Sean Foley, has one hell of a concept that has been created as a Frankenstein’s monster, taking bits and pieces from other British cult comedies from the last two decades. Fame came crashing down when, pissed as a fart, he fell off a sofa on ‘Wogan’ while slagging off his co-star (Steve Coogan) and calling the Isle of Man ‘a shithole’. Imagine further more that the star of this show became a big "I AM" for a while ( not at all like William Shatner) thinking he was too big for his own show and managed to alienate most of his co-stars and went off to Hollywood to become a star and. However, it is very unusual in that it has a mostly British cast and it was filmed on the Isle of Man, an unusual location for a Netflix film, I know. Years later, he’s clinging to his meagre past glories like a post-tumble-dry sock to a pair of nylon slacks. It probably isn't for everyone, e.g. He would be embittered by failure if he wasn’t convinced that he’s still a national treasure. 5 – 1980: New Wave, Cinema City, Jackie Chan & John Woo, The History of Hong Kong Action Cinema Pt. The film also bears more than a passing resemblance to Hot Fuzz, in the depiction of a small British community carrying on as normal despite a high murder rate happening all around them. Simon Farnaby, or the Stupid Deaths man as my son calls him gives an "untrustworthy foreigner" performance of the type British actors in America have made their own to the point of there having been absolutely no suspense in a US action suspense film for over 20 years ( IT'S THE British GUY!!!) Facebook. Here he is both caught up in the hunt for the killer as well as meeting former colleagues who went on to live more successful lives than him. 4. I suppose the younger set, who this movie is aimed at, may not have seen these comedy cliches before, but for anyone else, everything here is recycled from as far back as (in my memory anyway) Benny Hill and Tony Hancock. This just more of the same. It's very British, it's very funny and it's well worth a watch. When he is being Mindhorn, on the other hand, it is suddenly filmed in bright ‘80s technicolour. It is very rare now a days that you get to see a comedy film with out any adult language or those creepy scenes and Mindhorn is really an exception proving once again hat you do need a good story.I personally loved and liked this movie and i recommend it everyone who is interested in a good comedy watchable with friends. Mindhorn is a hotshot detective with a robotic eye that allows him to see the truth – he drives a Miami Vice -style flash car and wears a Burt Reynolds-style moustache. Didn't like this film for simple reasons. It is a credit to the screenplay, which takes its implausible narrative increasingly seriously as it progresses, that it manages to let the silliness and seriousness co-exist. A washed-up TV star comes out of retirement in this loose but very funny British comedy starring Julian Barratt of 'The Mighty Boosh'. That would best describe Richard Thorncraft played by Julian Barrett of The Mighty Boosh fame. A psychotic ‘Mindhorn’ fan is on the loose and will only deal with Detective Mindhorn himself. After a deranged serial killer (Russell Tovey) is on the loose in the Isle of Man, announcing he will only talk to Thorncroft in character, he is asked to resume his beloved role – something he mistakenly decides to take advantage of as a PR opportunity.
