The longnose gar (Lepisosteus osseus), also known as longnose garpike, and billy gar, is a ray-finned fish in the family Lepisosteidae.The genus may have been present in North America for about 100 million years.
Information on sport fishing based on my personal experiences. (Hey, I’m impatient!) In Ontario, the Spotted Gar lives in calm, clear pools and bays with plenty of aquatic plants. One of the "forgotten" predators in many of the waterways around Montreal, is the longnose gar.
